E is a competitive cheerleader and is on four teams. Holy Smokes! And L is a fantastic guitar player! Both are headed to college in the fall and I wish them the best of luck! I don't remember how their mom found me but I am so glad she did! These twins in a San Diego High School Senior Photos had a blast creating their portraits! Let’s chat about the advice I give the high school seniors in the San Diego area when we do their photoshoot.
First off I like to know "What senior picture ideas do you have?”
Who are your right now? What do you want to capture in your photos? Some High School Senior picture ideas you have might be about the look: Do you want an urban vibe in your photo shoot or a more laid back country style photo shoot?
When I talk to my photography clients about preparing for the shoot, I invite them to do the following:“
Think about what you want your overall gallery to look and feel like.
Layers of clothes also add some interest and depth to your images. Think vests, scarves, denim or leather jackets, hats…wear something that reveals a bit of who you are!
Do you want to look more feminine or masculine? Dressed up or really relaxed? Reflect this in your clothes - torn jeans or a fancy dress. Either way I love when you have something that flows more; as a simple twist while some of the pieces of the clothing flow in the wind can contribute a lot to the photo.
DON’T FORGET your letterman’s jacket, football, tennis racket or guitar! These are all great things that tell your high school story!
Also think about WHERE you want to shoot around San Diego? San Diego offers so many backdrops from the beach, to something rustic, something a bit more urban. All good things to think about when we are planning your shoot.
Best time for a haircut before a photo shoot
And a few other tips I always mention are the following: haircuts at least a week before to give your hair time to relax into the cut for both guys and girls, clean nails - this doesn't mean you have to spend on manicures but clean nails are a must, and, for the ladies, think about getting your makeup done or adding a bit more than usual to add a pop! People always talk about getting a tan before their photoshoot – I actually like your natural skin tone in the photos.
I’d love to keep this conversations going – shoot me a message if you have any more questions. I think of all my favorite photo shoots High School Senior shoots are my favorite. I get pretty booked out with these so let’s see if we can get you in the books before other seniors take those slots.
This post is part of a blog circle. The next one in our loop is Iana Chtefan, an Aberdeen/Scotland Personal Brand Photographer, who is chatting about a personal brand photo shoot for a Scottish tour guide.
